Obituary for Winona L. Webber (Boyd)

Memorial services for Winona Lynn (Boyd) Webber, 67, of Willoughby, will be at 11 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Thompson United Methodist Church, 6758 Madison Road, (on the square), Thompson. The Rev. Dennis Laferty will officiate at the service.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Saturday, prior to the service at the Church.

In respect to those amongst us, masks will be required and social distancing will be encouraged while visiting the church.

Winona passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Cardinal Woods Nursing Home in Madison Township. Her faith enabled her to live above her chronic illness.

Born August 7, 1953 in Cleveland, she was raised in Mentor, graduated from the former Andrews School for Girls in 1972 and Lakeland Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in 1973 and also from Edinboro State University in Pennsylvania, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Art Education in 1975. She later earned a Special Education Teacher Certification from Crotched Mountain School in Greenfield, New Hampshire.

As a young adult, Winona worked as a counselor at several Girl Scout Camps, including locations in New England and remained active in Girl Scouts through her high school years, especially enjoying swimming and canoeing.

Winona was an artist, teacher, counsellor and treasured her friendships and relationships with many individuals throughout her life. She enjoyed the beauty of nature and being a part of it.

Relocating to Monadnock, New Hampshire in October, 1976, she worked at facilities for handicapped adults and youth, in group homes and also at the Crotched Mountain Foundation, a special education school, and Psalm 33, Inc. from 1977-1999.

In her midlife, she became the beloved bride of Henry Webber on November 25, 1993. After her marriage, she and Henry returned to New England for a while, living in Maine for five years and returning to Northeast Ohio in 2006 to be near her mother.

Winona is survived by her husband, Henry; father, William R. Boyd, Jr., sister, Beverly (George) Nash and brother, William R. (Laura) Boyd and their families.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maxine (Montz) Boyd on July 31, 2008.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Cardinal Woods Nursing Home Resident Activity Fund, 6831 Chapel Road, Madison, OH 44057.

Winona was, without a doubt, one of the most unique and special individuals I met in my young adult, formative years. We met at Scout camp in MN. Over the next few years I had the opportunity to visit her at her welcoming home in Mentor and to have the treat of a stay at the family retreat home. For a long time if I had trouble falling asleep, I would picture arriving and parking at the Mentor house, going in the back door, being greeted by Winona and her mother, the placement of the furniture, the kitchen, etc. We stayed in touch for some years but I admit I dropped the ball over time. I still hold dear the notes she wrote with her artwork on them but most I cherish the always positive encouragement she gave of love and acceptance, Her star burns brightly in the sky. Thanks for crossing my path.
