Obituary

Obituary for John W. Bunnell

Services for John W. Bunnell, 86, will be at 10 A.M. on Friday June 11, 2021, at Davis -Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

John passed away at the David Simpson Hospice House.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at the funeral home. The family requests you wear golf attire rather than formal attire.

John fell in love with golf as a caddy at Kirtland Country Club. He played in several different leagues, including a traveling league and with many groups of friends.

He retired from Hamilton Mold and Machine as a machinist/programmer and finished his career working at Lost Nation Golf course cutting grass and doing landscaping work which he loved. During the winter months, he worked for DSH Machine Shop as needed with an old friend.

John was a United States Army veteran having served in Germany. He was an active member of the Willoughby South High School Booster Club for many years and was nominated Booster of the Year in 1984.
He participated in YMCA Indian Guides with his sons and was active in starting the first Indian Princess Tribes with his daughter. He also introduced his family to tent camping, and they enjoyed many weekend and week-long vacation trips to Florida, New York and Pennsylvania. Annually, each September, they enjoyed a canoe trip in the Mohican Wilderness with Gibbs family.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Sally I. (Gidley) Bunnell; children, Chuck (Colleen) Bunnell, Michael (Beverly) Bunnell and Deb Bunnell (David Zavesky); granddaughters, Leah Bunnell and Rachel Epstein.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian (Noch) Bunnell and brother, Glen Bunnell.

Final resting place will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc., PO Box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192-0002.
