Obituary for Alice J. Zimmerman (Fielder)

Services for Alice Joy (Fielder) Zimmerman, 82, of Mentor, will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 24, 2019 at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Avenue, Mentor. The Rev. Quincy E.M. Wheeler will officiate at the service.

The family will receive friends from 1-5 PM on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

Mrs. Zimmerman passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Symphony at Mentor.

Born January 7, 1937 in Doylestown, Ohio, she has lived in Mentor for the past 55 years.

She was an active member of Mentor United Methodist Church where she played in the bell choir and was Chairwoman of the Altar Guild. She was PTA president at Garfield Elementary School in Mentor, where her children attended, and Cub Scout den mother. Mrs. Zimmerman served several offices in the Mentor Women’s Club, including President. She loved being in the Wildwood Garden Club. She volunteered as an advocate in the Reach to Recovery program, where she counseled and helped provide resources to women who were being treated for breast cancer. She was a proud member of the Painesville Women’s Choir.

Mrs. Zimmerman held a variety of jobs over the years, including substitute teacher, piano and organ salesperson, and manager of a wallpaper store.

Survivors are her husband of 62 years, Muril F. Zimmerman; sons, Daniel (Kathy) Zimmerman and Scot (Kathy) Zimmerman and daughter, Wendy (John Fleig) Zimmerman; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, sisters Jane Williams, and Sarah (Harold) Munson, and brother William (Suellen) Fielder. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Ruth (McCartney) Fielder, brother, David “Bud” Fielder, brother-in-law Robert Williams, and son-in-law Salvatore Alestri.
